The fall convention season always brings announcements for new aviation products.  This year’s Citation Jet Pilots Convention (CJP) and National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Convention were no exception.  Here are some the of the things coming soon in the Citation family:
  • Citation Hemisphere – We can’t think of anything more exciting than Cessna entering the super midsize jet category!  The Hemisphere mock-up at NBAA proved that Cessna will enter this market with an impressive product.  Cessna plans for the 4500 nm range, 102″ wide cabin aircraft to fly in 2019 and deliveries to start in 2020.  It will offer the lowest operating costs in its class and will be priced in the mid $30 million range.
  • Garmin G5000 Cockpit Upgrade for Citation Excel/XLS  – Perhaps the most significant development in the 560XL since it was built, Garmin announced they will be offering a G5000 cockpit upgrade for the Citation Excel and XLS.  The system, which should be certified in 2018, will offer all the advantages of the G5000 cockpit plus additional safety features such as autopilot automatic descent mode.  Additionally, the G5000 retrofit will allow 560XL owners to comply with FAA ADS-B out requirements and will have options to see NextGen avionics requirements such as CPDLC.  Pricing is anticipated to be around $500,000 installed. Expect the already hot 560XL market to continue to heat up in coming months!
  • Duncan Aviation Offers CJ3 Upgrades – Duncan Aviation announced a suite of Citation CJ3 upgrades that can be combined with their Collins Proline Fusion cockpit upgrades.  Take a tour of some of the new cosmetic offerings!
  • Tamarack Winglets offer 250-300 nm Range Increase on CJ3s – Tamarack announced a pilot report of a 2037 nm trip in a Citation CJ3.  The winglets are priced around $300,000. With the optional cosmetic and avionics upgrades from Duncan and the increase in range with the Tamarack Winglets, we expect that a sluggish CJ3 market will begin to rebound in the next year as demand will increase.
